Understanding The Working Of Self Priming Pumps

Self priming pumps are a type of centrifugal pumps that use a mixture of air and water to reach a fully-primed condition. You cannot start this pump at any time and even in the condition when it is dry inside because it requires water in the casing to operate successfully. It is also never advised to run this pump without water in the casing because it can be dangerous and may lead to seal failure.

Individuals generally prefer buying self priming centrifugal pumps because they overcome the problem of air by mixing air with water to build a fluid property. It is imperative for an operator to understand that these pumps cannot operate without water in the casing.

  1. The pump is designed to self-prime and it is important to understand how this is achieved. By definition a self priming pump is a pump which can clear its passages of air if it becomes air bound and continue delivery of the pumpage without outside attention.
